Norwalk Assumes Early Lead

Firelands Challenge First Round Results

Norwalk High School is beginning the 2025-2026 season of Firelands Challenge just as it did last season – in first place.  The opening round of the Firelands Challenge Program took place on Monday and Tuesday.

Norwalk and New London shared common 19-point scores at the half-way mark of their match with Willard.  But Norwalk took charge by sweeping the Great Books category and never looked back for the rest of the match.

The final scores of the opening match were Norwalk with 59, New London with 33 and Willard with 18.  The second match of Round I saw long-time champion Edison High School defeat teams from Sandusky and Bellevue.

Edison was tied with Bellevue at the mid-point of the match; both teams had 20 points.  Like Norwalk, Edison used a strong second half performance to notch its first victory of the season.

Edison finished with 47 points.  Bellevue edged out Sandusky with 24 points to Sandusky’s 23 points.

The most competitive match of the first round took place on Tuesday.  Only five points separated the teams from Perkins, St. Mary CC, and St. Paul.  Perkins was behind the other two teams mid-way through the match, but like Norwalk and Edison, had a strong second half showing.

Perkins won the match with 45 points.  St. Mary CC was close behind with 43 points and St. Paul finished with 40 points

Other match results included:

  • Huron 50, Margaretta 29, South Central 27
  • Port Clinton 51, Lakota 32, W. Reserve 26
  • Danbury 52, Monroeville 30, Oak Harbor 13

The top five teams after the first round are:

  1. Norwalk
  2. Danbury
  3. Port Clinton
  4. Huron
  5. Edison

Firelands Habitat for Humanity of Sandusky was recognized as a new sponsor of the Firelands Challenge Program.

Round II matches are scheduled for October 13 and 14 at the EHOVE Career Center.
