Edison Wins Firelands Challenge Play-off...
...Joins Norwalk and St. Mary CC for Championship
Edison’s Firelands Challenge team struck early in its Play-off Match with Huron and Port Clinton. It earned six points in the opening Current Events category and led for the remainder of the match.
Edison, which has won the last twelve championships, has not been in a Play-off match for a long time. It led in regular season cumulative scoring for the last seven seasons.
The team from Port Clinton kept the competition close early. It trailed by only two points at the end of the first part of the match.
Port Clinton struggled in the second part of the match. Edison held a 12 point lead over Port Clinton at the half-way point.
Huron’s team trailed the other two teams throughout the first half of the match. It did much better in the second half, scoring 15 of its 25 points in the American Government, Team Choice, and Fine Arts categories.
Edison benefitted from answering both Toss-up questions for eight points. It also scored 12 bonus points by answering questions missed by the other two teams.
Reflecting on her team’s win, Edison co-captain Maylie Weilnau commented, “The team has worked so hard this season to get to the championship, and we have had many people step up to fill roles. We are excited for three more rounds of competition to prove ourselves.”
The final match scores were:
- Edison 47
- Port Clinton 34
- Huron 25
Next up are three Championship Rounds with Edison joining Norwalk and St. Mary CC to determine the 2024-25 champion. The dates and times for the matches have not been finalized.
